On May 31st, Build2Win sponsored a panel discussion to outline the future vision of Carson City from three different perspectives. Panelists included:
1. Tom Metcalf of Metcalf Builders selected to build the Downtown Town Square Project by Mr. Steve Neighbors, Trustee of Hop and Mae Adams Foundation;
2. Doreen Mack, President, Downtown Project 2020 who converted the freeway going through downtown Carson City into a walkable historic downtown and wants to preserve the historic character and charm as much as possible; and
3. Kathleen Beasley who has seen small charming towns converted to big cities in California and Colorado with disastrous results in the name of progress.
As expected, it was a lively discussion with Q&A from residents who love Carson City small town nature and want to avoid high rise block buildings in downtown Carson City as depicted in the drawings submitted by Frame Architects employed by Hop and Mae Adams Foundation. Does that look like Carson City charm to you – the same town HGTV declared “Carson City was named most charming Nevada small town in Nevada” per Reno Gazette Journal Published 12:37 pm Feb. 25, 2025.
“There’s something special about small towns. Whether it’s the simplicity, the character or the people, they are a quintessential part of American life,” HGTV said.
“Carson City, Nevada, dates back to the 1850s, when the discovery of silver in nearby Comstock Lode made it a boom town,” HGTV said. “Today, Victorian-era homes still stand in the historic downtown area and along the popular Kit Carson Trail. History buffs will find plenty to explore here, including the Nevada State Railroad Museum and the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum.”
Stay engaged and involved. Voice your opinion for a better community so our Board of Supervisors do not turn Carson City into another BIG CITY like Austin,Texas, or Atlanta, Georgia or Boise, Idaho as a Boise developer (Hop and Mae Adams Foundation) would like profiting a commercial builder Metcalf Builders from Reno.

Build2Win is a 501 c (3) organization and we rely on your generous tax deductible donation to continue our mission of educating Carson City residents on local concerns, City policies, projects or processes.
We believe an informed resident can help to create a better community. We cannot let city bureaucrats and career politicians do it alone without guardrails for them and continual check-ins.
